The Rotary Ambassadorial Scholarship is an extremely prestigious scholarship granted to young men and women (ages 18-30) interested in studying abroad and serving as ambassadors of goodwill.
With Rotary clubs in 157 different countries, your choices are nearly unlimited, as will be your amazing experiences.
Applications are now being accepted for the 2010-2011 academic. The deadline to apply is March 6, 2009.
Qualifications to Apply
- Have completed either two years of college or two years of recognized work
- Must a citizen of a country in which there is a Rotary Club (with clubs in 157 different countries, this is hardly a problem!)
- Do NOT have to be in Rotaract to apply (though it most certainly helps, and you are encouraged!)
- Are NOT related to any Rotarian or honorary Rotarian
There are 3 different types of scholarships to which you can apply:
Academic Year Ambassadorial Scholarship
US$25,000 scholarships are awarded for one year of academic study (usually 9 months) at an institution assigned by the Rotary Foundation Trustees. The scholarship may also be used for vocational training. Recipients are expected to be proficient in the language of the host country.
Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarship
US$12,500/year scholarships are awarded for two years of full-time, degree-oriented academic study at an institution assigned by the Rotary Foundation Trustees.
Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarships
These scholarships are either for 3- or 6-months of language intensive training and cultural immersion at a language school assigned by the Rotary Foundation Trustees. The 3-month scholarship is most appropriate for those already somewhat proficient in the language, whereas the 6-month scholarship is more appropriate if the language presents a challenge. Applicants should complete 1 year of college coursework (or the equivalent) in the language of choice.
US$12,000 is awarded for the 3-month scholarship. US$17,000 is awarded for the 6-month scholarship.
