Polio Plus Update – From Your Chairs

Mar 9, 2009   //   by Joanna   //   Announcements, International Service  //  No Comments

Polio Plus

Hi all!

At last week’s Thursday meeting–PolioPlus’s first!–we discussed this semester’s plans and now have TASKS to be accomplished!

PLEASE READ the minutes [at the Google Group ] to better understand our plans and what needs to be done and SIGN-UP for the tasks you are most interested in through the Google doc.

WE WILL NEED EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU TO HELP FOR POLIOPLUS TO SUCCEED THIS YEAR.

If anything, please drop by the Rotaract table on Sproul to help flyer or at least tell your friends about the international polio issue and spread awareness that this is NOT a problem that will simply disappear.

Or, even better, get out there and make an announcement in each of your classes (with your instructor’s permission!) about PolioPlus, the texting initiative, and Purple Pinkie Week (April 6 – 10). If possible, try to chalk the following message onto your classrooms’ boards:

“END POLIO NOW! Text “polio” to 90999 to donate $5 to Rotary International’s PolioPlus (a one-time charge) 60 CENTS SAVES A LIFE! -> calrotaract.org”

Remember why we are doing this, and please don’t hesitate to e-mail polioplus@calrotaract.org if you have any questions or concerns.

Stay tuned for our next meeting time, and JOIN THE FACEBOOK Group & GOOGLE Group!

Your Polio Plus Committee Chairs,

Ami Chiu & Richard Lan

Spotlight: Cal Rotaract at District Conference

Mar 8, 2009   //   by Joanna   //   Announcements  //  No Comments

Cal Rotaract @ DCom

Thank you for coming out, Cal Rotaract!

This past Saturday, Cal Rotaract sported Bear pride at the 2nd annual Rotaract District 5160 Conference! We had an amazing turnout — coming in full force with 26 Rotaractors (matching UC Davis’s club, the host club!). Way to go, Cal!

At the Conference, we had plenty of fun attending workshops, hearing from our keynote speaker Davis Rotarian Gretchen Peralta, and assembling LN-4 Prosthetic Hands to be distributed throughout the world. We even got a taste of speed interviewing with Rotarians, as they offered us tips and advice on acing those oh-so-important interviews we all face.

Pictures from the Conference are now posted, so please check it out! (A special thanks to our Webmaster/Historian Steven Wong for the awesome event coverage.)
