Outreach for Berkeley Kitchen – Summer
Do you enjoy cooking? Or helping underserved populations? Berkeley’s Kitchen does!
Berkeley’s kitchen is a not-for-profit organization that promotes diverse, ethnic cuisines in the Berkeley community. All proceeds from their clinics (which range from food tastings to professional chefs teaching you how to cook) will go to SPROUT for Success, a charity for low-income immigrants in the Bay Area and around the world.
They are also in the works of starting their own restaurant! They will serve ethnic foods using all-natural, locally bought GREEN ingredients.
Their clinics during the summer:
- June 7th at 3 pm—Meridian International. Learn to Sous vide meats with a professional chef. Sous vide is a gourmet method of slow-cooking meats to help meats retain their shape and add an exquisite flavor.
- June 21st at 11 am—Cook Carne Asada with two aspiring chefs from Mexico.
- July 26th at 11 am—Make Pakistani pizzas with Tandor Kitchen!

Spring 2009 Semester Recap – with video!
Again, thank you all you Rotaractors for a awesome semester! Here are just some final announcements before everyone goes off on vacation:
- There is one LAST event of the semester: the Rotary Peace Grove Picnic. Please contact jkwong@calrotaract.org or any other officer if you’re interested.
- If you’re interested in volunteering or hanging out with other Rotaractors over the summer sometime, just email info@calrotaract.org, and you’ll be added on our summer mailing lists for any opportunities that may come up.
- The end of the semester slideshow has been posted up on youtube under the username: Calrotaract. It is embedded here and also on the photos page also for those of you that missed it or just want to see it again! Remember there’s a High-Quality button!

MAY 5 | Rotaract Spring Fiesta | 122 Wheeler
What to Expect:

- Good old fasioned Rotaract Fun!
*Details for White Elephant Gift Exchange:
It’s not Christmas, but presents are always nice! If you’ve never played White Elephant before, this is a game you do not want to miss! It’s SUPER FUN and requires no money. Please read all of the details if you’re planning to participate. Participating is NOT mandatory. We ask that you keep the gift to about a $1 limit; you’re welcome to bring as MANY gifts as you want.
- Participants are required to bring a gift. Gifts are typically inexpensive, humorous items or used items from home that are still in good condition. Do this while you’re still AT HOME for break!!
- Gift must be wrapped! You can easily get gift wrap at Dollar Store or use your Creativity.
- DO NOT WRITE YOUR NAME ON YOUR GIFT.
- Bring your gift to our social on Tuesday, we’ll play the game and you’ll walk away with different gift(s)!! Remember, you may bring as many as you like!

MAY 2-3: Relay for Life, Edwards Stadium – UCB
One day. One night. One community. One Fight. Relay For Life is a life-changing event that brings together more than 3.5 million people- to celebrate the lives of those who have battled cancer; remember loved ones lost to the disease; and fight back against a disease that takes too much. By participating, you honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives we’ve lost to the disease, and raise money to help fight cancer here in your community.
Events Schedule:
- Opening Ceremony: 10am Saturday
- Survivors Lap: 10am Saturday
- Luminaria Ceremony: 9pm Saturday
- Fight Back / Closing Ceremony: 9am Sunday
