Rotaractors! Vote for the YMCA TeenCenter Project
The Berkeley YMCA has been selected by Pepsi Cola for a competition in efforts of raising funds for the New Teen Center building.
To put it short, the TWO projects with the MOST votes by the end of this month WILL GET $250,000 USD. Currently, the YMCA Teen Center is ranked 15 out of 200.
According to Berkeley Rotary President-Elect Fred Collignon, “the TeenCenter is THE most important venture to improve services for youth in Berkeley since the expansion of youth fields 10 years ago, with huge impacts on all kinds.”
So, if you can take 20 secs to read this post, why not take another 20 seconds to cast your vote: http://www.refresheverything.com/ymcateencenter
1. Visit the Pepsi Refresh Project
2. Click the “Vote for this idea” button
3. Register for an account or log into Facebook
4. Submit
What’s really cool is that you can cast your vote again the next day! That’s right, you can vote ONCE per day for EVERY day in the month of February. It honestly takes 20 seconds to vote so please do so as much as you can!
Rotaract is following Rotary International’s goal this year of “Building Communities, Bridging Continents”. Let’s start with Berkeley!

Learn about a career from a professional in that field over dinner!
Career Focus: City Planning and Public Policy.
Come have dinner with a Rotarian! This the first of a series of career-themed dinners. February’s dinner focus is city-planning and public policy! This will be a small group of Rotaractors to have a conversation with a Rotarian, our very own Fred Collignon, a recently retired professor at UC Berkeley, soon-to-be President of the Rotary Club. This is a special opportunity to be able to speak with someone so well connected with the organization and to hear about his many career experiences. He is a city-planner and public policy specialist, also having done work in start-ups, politics, and consulting, among many other things.
When: Thursday, Feb. 25th
Time: 6:30 pm to 8 pm
Location: Le Petit Cheval (2600 Bancroft Way)
Rotaract’s New Sign Up System
Drop down Menus! Pretty colored pictures! Clickable links! What’s happening to the website?
This semester, we have a new sign-up process! When you read our upcoming events (below), you will see the details for an event as well as the contact information. Beginning this semester, we will be adding a link to our event page, which is where you’ll sign up.
1. Click on the event link under event description. Once you reach the event page, you should see “Signups for [Event, Date].”
2. Look for your name on the Dropdown menu. If your name is not on the list, click “[Not on List] and enter your first and last name. Also enter your email and phone number, and click on “Add to List” to sign-up for the event or “Remove from List” to remove yourself from the sign-up list.
Pretty easy, right? If you have any questions, please contact our webmaster William at wmok@calrotaract.org.
—————-
Right, so why a new sign up system you ask? We want to let you know we heard your comments from the survey last semester. Online sign ups to the website makes it easier for both you and the Board. With this new system, you will be able to track your service events BASED ON HOURS. The database makes it easier for us to COMMUNICATE and takes away the hassle of messy paper trails. Speaking of paper, we’re slowly shifting towards being more ENVIRONMENTAL FRIENDLY. By the end of the semester, we hope to eliminate the need to use paper sign in slips!
