As the semester’s coming to a close, the end of one term also marks the beginning of a new start as we open the applications for a new Cal Rotaract Outreach Coordinator for Fall 2012. We’ve had so many interesting socials, so many inspiring events, Rotarian mentorship program, and so, so much more activities just BLOWN UP. Who can forget our record attendances in terms of consistency? Now it’s time to celebrate.

The challenges will be great, and the stakes high, but get ready to use every bit of your brute strength and sharp cleverness as we tackle what it means to be a Rotaractor in District 5160. This mini-retreat is an opportunity for Rotaractors to network, meet the rest of their Rotary family and do service while having fun! There will be guest speakers and leadership development workshops but like last year, we will end the afternoon with an intensive inter-club competition so please dress comfortably.

Registration, which includes lunch, is $5.
(All proceeds raised during this event will be donated
to our District Project, Vitamin Angels.)

Hi there Rotaract munchkins! It’s been a wonderful semester filled with unbelievably successful general meetings, outstanding service projects galore, and fantastic committee participation… but as they say, all good things must come to an end (boo). But before spring semester is over, Rotaract would like to invite you all to our 6TH AND FINAL GENERAL MEETING of Spring 2012!

As classes are wrapping up and we’re all (unfortunately) starting to prepare for finals, Rotaract events are still going strong! We will recap recent events such as the International Committee Spaghetti Feed for Vitamin Angels and the Interact Stay-over. In addition, we still have 3 more main events before finals creep up on us that we would like you to attend – Rebuilding Together, The Rotaract Games, and Spring Banquet (YAY BANQUET!).

To celebrate our outstanding member activism this semester we are treating you all to FREE YUMMY FOOD as well as socializing time to reflect on all of the uncontrollable laughs, embarrassing moments, unflattering pictures, and amazing service we accomplished this semester!

We will also be selling SPRING BANQUET TICKETS, so please bring some cash with you (prices to be announced soon).

Come join Rotaract’s International Committee in our last event of the semester! In this hands on service project, we will be putting together LN-4s which are low cost, light, durable and functional prosthetic hands.

Make a difference in someone’s life by empowering them to go about their daily lives independently. We will also be having a guest speaker Chris Ategeka from CA Bikes speaking to us about how the organization he founded empowers youth through the provision of custom made bikes and wheelchairs!

Don’t miss out on this opportunity to put together prosthetic hands for someone that needs it! We hope to see you there!

Any student wishing to apply for financial aid for service work abroad this summer with a Rotary project should submit a letter by April 15 to our Rotary Club liaison, Prof. Emeritus Fred Collignon, at fcollig@berkeley.edu.

The letter should include:
Your name
Personal address (for sending award letters and checks!)
Year at Cal
Major
Activities in Rotaract
Your intended project
The related Rotary club(s)
Time of work
Estimated personal costs

Your letter should be accompanied by some evidence (email or other) that the Rotary club has approved your going. Only a limited amount of money is available for this project, which was set up by the Berkeley Rotary Club at Cal Rotaract’s request a few years back. But awards of $250-500 are feasible, depending on the number applying. Berkeley Rotary would try to provide a response on awards by May 1.

Come on out to Rotaract’s biannual Spaghetti Feed Fundraiser where we will be serving delicious home cooked spaghetti with bread from Acme and other delicious goodies!

This semester, it will be held at the SIbley room in the Alumni House which is a beautiful place to check out for those who have not been there! All proceeds go to Vitamin Angels, a wonderful organization that reduces child mortality worldwide by connecting essential micronutrients, especially vitamin A, with infants and children under five. Each dose of vitamins for a child only costs 25 cents and can potentially save a life.

Get your meal tickets at the Rotaract table for $5 presale or $7 on the day itself and help save the lives of 20 children while savoring a delicious meal!
